My name is Betty Snyder. My GGG Grandfather was Colin Cornelius McRae, born in Scotland in 1797 and died in Texas in 1835. He migrated from North Carolina to Louisiana and arrived in Texas in 1830. I have good history on him in Louisiana and Texas. My history says that he was the son of Farquhar and Christine McRae of Scotland and North Carolina. I would appreciate any information on Farquhar and Christine McRae and their descendants.

Betty,

I am very interested in learning more about your ancestor Colin Cornelius McRae. (I did not know what his middle initial stood for until now.) He was the son of Farquhar McRae, Jr. and Christian McRae, just as you stated. Farquhar McRae, Jr. was the son of Farquhar McRae, Sr. of Mountain Creek in Richmond Co., NC. This Farquhar died in 1800 with a will. It does not mention Farquhar, Jr., but I have circumstantial evidence that he was Farquhar, Jr.'s father--namely an early deed which gave Farquhar, Jr. land shortly after his marriage, and a separate tradition in the Utah MacRae family which thought of Farquhar, Jr. who lived in Louisiana as an "uncle" of their particular line. Christian MacRae was said by Mala Leavell, a Louisiana descendant of Alexander Hamilton MacRae, to have been a daughter of a Reverend Duncan MacRae. I believe this "Rev. Duncan MacRae" is my ancestor, Duncan MacRae of Hamer's Creek, on the border between Richmond and Montgomery Co., NC. He was the father or grandfather of my Flora MacRae of Clark's Creek in Montgomery County. I have a great deal of information and would like to compare notes with you. Shortly, I will be publishing a book on all the MacRae families of North and South Carolina. My e-mail address is:
