Hi,
I have a 2greatgrandnother Catherine MCRAE born about 1806 in Kintail, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland.
It was 1st thought that she was illegitimate daughter of Catherine McCUAIG ( ms McRAE) but I have now reason to believe that Catherine (Senior) had married a John McRae son of Farquhar Roy McRAE in 1804 0 Catherine (Junior) was born in 1805/6 in Kintail. There is a marriage record 16/May 1804 in Glensheil. It looks like Catherine McRae daughter of John Bayne McAlister
According to a record on " Morman Familysearch" John was Born about 1782 ( to Farquhar Roy MCRAE) and Catherine About 1887 in Glensheil Kintail.
This Farquhar would have to be born about 1760?
There are so many Farquhar McRae born R & C. Does anyone have a record of this Farquhar???
I do know that 3 of the children of Catherine (Junior) married to Donald McDONALD, after the death of their parents- between 1852.550 were liv ing with a John MCRAE (cousin)a school Teacher in the Applecross district 1861 census- John born Glensheil and aged 33yrs. The death cert. of a child Catherine who died in 1855 was living with a Marion and John MCRAE (Uncle & Aunt>) when she died. in Bernena. Another child Ann was living with a widow Mary McRAE aged 70 in 1891 census in Kintail district. After the tragic death of Catherine McRae and Donald MCDONALD the children were all scattered living with Mcrae relations.
In the case of John he was described as their cousin?? Can anyone please help.
many thanks,
Janet in Canterbury NZ (janet-d@clear.net.nz)
