Hi Scott you could try the Family search site , & Scotlands people , the Ancestry web site or Genes reunited are good for putting your tree on , as well as finding members of the same tree., But also if you take a look on the section on this site , Genealogy - Scottish Ancestors, Rest of Scotland... Their is a Jeremy Rae , who has been doing a search of the Rae family of Kirkcaldy. hope this helps.

Scott, as you are near Edinburgh a day, monday to friday, there and £15 for a desk at the Scotlands People Centre, Princes St. "behind the horse". Start with a birth certificate, your own or a parent, birth certificates usually record parents marriage date, which should take you to the next generation. So on backwards. It gets more tricky before 1855 but that is half the fun. Enjoy the journey but beware the possibility of finding the unexpected.
