I was in a meeting at work the other day and met a colleague by the name of McCrea. When we got talking he said his family were from Ireland and that he didn't think there was a link between us - my father was born in Wester Ross. He believes his ancestors came over to Scotland to fight for Bonnie Prince Charlie but were sent back to Ireland (presumably after Culloden) for fighting for the losing side.
I have seen him around at work and he occasionally wears MacRae tartan ties the same as ones I have.
I would be interested to know if anyone has any information on this link, or otherwise.
