I am after assistance with some information from the book 'The History of Clan MacRae' by Rev Alexander MacRae. I have been told that on pages 455 & 456 there is a reference to a Duncan MacRae who was the second son of Donald & Mary MacRae. There is also meant to be another reference to Donald on Page 162 - line 17. There is some possibility that the Duncan MacRae referred to is my GGGrandfather who in 1852 travelled with his wife Jessie on the ship 'Chance' and settled in Victoria, Australia so if anyone can provide some detail on what is in the book would be appreciated.

Noel,

You may have been misled with regards to pp455/6, as my copy of the book has only 442 pages.

Page 162 line 17, however, does include a Duncan, details as follows:

b1. Donald, who had at least four sons - Christoper; Duncan; Allan; John.

Donald's parents were Duncan, who was living at Achantighard in 1756, and Isabel, daughter of Maurice MacRae. In turn, Duncan was son of Donald who married Ann Matheson of Fernaig, and whose parents were Alexander, son of the Rev. Donald, who settled by his father in the lands of Drugaid and is said to have married a daughter of Fraser of Belladrum.

I hope this is of use to you.

Kind regards,

Jon.

Noel, there are pages 455 and 456, indeed there are pages 445 to 511. These pages are not in the original book by the Rev Alexander Macrae but are in the Notes and Additions to that book. I have the Notes & Additions.
Duncan was the second son of Donald and Mary as you say and Duncan lived at Carndue, married Anne, daughter of Malcolm Macrae with issue Donald, Malcolm, Alexander Mary and John.
I cannot find reference to a Jessie. It is a bit of a coincidence that Duncan's GGrandfather Donald is also the GGrandfather of John Macrae who also came out on the Chance in 1852 and John was my GGGrandfather.
Cheers
Rob
