Hello everyone!

I'm hoping for a bit of help, or, rather confirmation. My last name is Rea, and as far as my fathers side has said that we're both Irish and Scotish, what history of our name (and spelling) is that we were a part of clan McRea (which is part of MacRae it seems). From what I could find part of the clan fled to Ireland and changed the name. I want to know if I'm allowed to say that I'm part of clan MacRae and more so, what tartan am I allowed to wear?

Thank you to you all for the help in advance!

Hi there,

I the book Scots Kith and Kin first published in 1953 you will find Rae, Ray & Rea all listed as Dumfriesshire etc.13th c.; MACRAE.
Visit www.tartanauthority.gov.uk and take your pick of those which are neither personal nor belong to a specific family provided of course they are currently in production.
If you need further information ask alex@macrae.co

Regards,

Alex
