this is a bit of a long shot but worth a try.
my mcrea/mcrae line goes back to thomas, b.1811 (ish) married in london 1839 to eliza weir , b.1823 (ish) then they moved to southampton 1841,
thomas was a fireman on a steam vessel but disappeared around 1848-51 never to be found again leaving eliza with 4 children.
one child, george gordon mcrae had a son william alexander mcrae who, following in his fathers and grandfathers footsteps went to sea, only to lose his life aboard titanic.
eliza, formerly weir was from new dear, aberdeen
thomas however has so far proved elusive.
all i know is he was born about 1811 in scotland, fathers name allen mcrae (thomas's marriage cert)and allen was a fox hunter and game keeper. i'm really stuck with this and any advice on what to try next would be much appeciated.
