I am looking for information on the family of my GtGt Grandparents John McRae born about 1811 & Isabella (nee Robertson) born abt1821 from Logie, Perth.
Isabellas first marriage to William Marshall 16 May 1840 produced a daughter Isabella Marshall born about 1841. John McRae married Isabella Robertson 15 July 1849 in Logie. As far as I know they had 5 children all born in Logie.
1. Helen McRae b, about 1851, (Helen had a daughter Isabella Robertson McRae b. 7 June 1871 Logie, no mention of father, this child on 1881 census). 2. John McRae b. about 1854. 3. William McRae b. 23 June 1856. 4. Alexander McRae b. 8 July 1859. 4. James David McRae b. 16 Aug 1862 James was my maternal Gt Grandfather who came to Victoria, Australia about 1883?, he married Adelaide Mary George in 1893 Melbourne.
1861 CENSUS Holly Tree, Logie, Perthshire, John McRae aged 50 General Labourer, Isabella McRae aged 40, Isabella Marshall aged 20, Stepdaughter, Occupation: Press shop Worker, Helen McRae aged 10, John McRae aged 7, William McRae aged 5, Alexander McRae age 1
*John McRae senior died between 1871 & 1881.
1881 CENSUS Logie, Perth, Menstry, Clackmannan - John McCowan grandson aged 1,
Alexander McRae son aged 20, Woolen Weaver; Isabella R. McRae granddaughter aged 10, Isabella McRae Head, Widow aged 55, James McRae Son aged 18 Wool Spinner.
I was told as a child by my Grandmother that one of the McRae sons had gone to Canada.
I have always wondered if any other of the family members came out here to Australia.
My Grandmother spoke fondly of a Meg McRae that she wrote to, Im not sure if it was in Scotland or Canada, she must have been a cousin.
I do not know who John McCowan aged 1 on the 1881 census was the child of (perhaps Helens or Isabella Marshalls?).
I hope some one can help me find these people.
