"MacRae" is now spelled many ways throughout the world, and "McCray" is one of those spellings. I'm Bill McCray and live in Lexington, KY, USA. DNA results show that I share a common ancestor probably in the past 400 years with two men in Scotland named MacRae, supporting the family stories of Samuel McCray, our ancestor, having come to the colonies from Scotland around 1750. It's possible that my ancestors couldn't write or read and just told their name to officials here who spelled it as it sounded, "McCray", and the spelling stuck. Tell us more about yourself and someone here may know about your branch.
