I am looking for information relating to James Bannerman McRae, his forebears and descendants. He was a custom tailor in Woodstock, N.B., Canada for approximately 25 years until his death in January 1896 at age 50. He was survived by his second wife, Annie (Murphy) McRae and 11 children, of whom my great-grandfather, Thomas Lewis McRae, was the eldest, born in 1875. I heard growing up that there were many descendants of James B. in and around N.B. and Northern Maine; are any of them on this board? Also, James B. was born in Scotland circa 1845 and came to N.B circa the early 1870s, but more than that (i.e., what part of Scotland he came from and any information about his parents, brothers, sisters, etc.) I do not know -- except that his surname was spelled MacRae until he came to N.B. (As family legend has it, he changed the spelling to McRae as a condition of marrying his first wife, my great-great grandmother, Isabel Gallagher, presumably as an Irish vs. Scottish spelling.) Any info would be appreciated!
