Hi
I am trying to trace my family tree back to Scotland. The earliest record we can find is of Thomas Rae married to Elizabeth Gartland in Greenwich London on the 15th Nov 1783. His occupation is listed as a Mariner and had a son Thomas born in 1786 in Greenwich.

Although the offical records the family was using the name Rae, unoffically they were still using MacRae well into the 1800s.

If anyone could provide any infomation on the possible origin of Thomas, I would be most grateful.

Regards
David
