Hi, my name is Clare and I'm almost 18, I live in America but my father is from Australia, his name is Philip McRae Jones. My family from Australia is convinced that other descendants of the Clan MacRae would shun us because our ancestors are convicts. Would this be true? Please reply, thank you,
Clare Marie Storm Jones

An uncouth sassenach would so regard every descendant of our clansman at Sherrifmuir, of Rob Roy and the MacGregors who fought with us in 1719, or of every highlander who cared more for a lively drachm than for the king's gaugers.

A discerning gentleman might take more interest in your own morals....which he will be happy to test at the ceilidh!

Hi! Clare, I don't know where you got the motion from that Clan MacRae would shun you because of your ancestoral links to convicts. That may have been the case years ago when people didn't speak about them but now everyone wants to link up with a convict. Clan MacRae would not shun you. Some of these convicts became well known Australians and have done a lot of wonderful things. A lot of them were sent to Australia for petty crimes. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. I am also a member of Clan MacRae Australia and New Zealand. I am also President of Clan MacLennan NSW & ACT and Vice President of Clan Cameron NSW. I am a direct descendant of the McRae's of Kintail. My GGG grandparents are John Roy McRae and Mary McLennan of Armidale, NSW. Australia. I am also an historian.

Not the Australian Relatives, it's become quite a badge of honour to be descended from convict stock these days!
