I am researching a PhD on the cultural associations and contemporary interpretation of Scottish battlefields. I am very keen to hear from as many Macraes as possible about battles and battlefields that are significant to them; not just the history, but the folklore, tradition, beliefs that you have about these sites, or have been passed down the family or have heard, or if you have taken part in any commemoration of a battle or its site. What do these sites mean to you today? At present, battlefields can only be protected if there are physical features, so if Scottish battlefields are to be preserved than we need to consider the cultural heritage of a site. I would certainly welcome your assistance.
