My GGG Grandmother was Mary McRae who married Murdo Matheson in parish of Urray , Ross and Cromarty on 03/04/1830 . On the marriage certificate it says that Murdo is from Glenorrin but Mary's home is very hard to read - it could be Corrievuic which I see from a detailed OS map is at the head of Strathconon . She died on 21/05/1895 in Knockbain , Black Isle aged 90 . Mary's parents were Alexander McRae ( crofter ) and Mary McGregor . I also see from 1841 census that there were several McRae families residing at Corrievuic who could be related to Mary . Can anyone help me confirm if Mary is from Corrievuic or point me in the right direction .
Cheers ,
Larry

Hi Larry

1891 shows a Mary McRae (aged 86)living in Knockbain with her son Kenneth and daugter Catherine. If this is your Mary it gives her place of birth as Strathconon.Hope this helps?

Hello again Larry

I have had a look at the certificate and it looks like Corrievuic to me.

I have found that the talkingscot website is a good place to look. It is a forum where you can download the certificate , there is usually some expert who will get back to you with their interpretation . Apart from that I think it is a great site(and free) may be worth a look .

Good hunting

Kind Regards

Frances

Good evening, Larry, There is a place in Scotland called Corrievrecken. Could this be the place that you are looking for? If wanting information on Corrievrecken just do a google search and information will come up. Hope that this has helped. Regards, Rhonda Macrae

Hi Frances,

Thanks for having a look at the certificate. I'm glad that someone else thinks it looks like Corrievuic too! I notice on the detailed OS map that there is a wee place called Corriefeol beside Corrievuic - it is only about 400 yards away , so must be part of the same community . That's probably worth checking out too .

I will check out the talkingscot website as suggested .

Cheers ,
Larry
