Hello. I am a descendant by my mother of Benjamin Aveline Macrae, professor of Law at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil. I'd like to know more about him, if anyone has any sources on the Macrae presence in Brazil.

Apparently his family owned a shipyard in the city of Rio Grande, Brazil.

Any sources, archives or documents would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to add that apparently he graduated in Law in the University of Inverness, before moving to Brazil.

Dear Mr. Farina,
I'm also a descendant of Benjamin Aveline Macrae, from his first marriage in Rio Grande,RS, Brasil. You are right. He studied at the Royal Academy of Inverness and in Edinburg (5 years in the first and 4 in the second). I have an archive about him. Unfortunately, it's a text in picture format in pdf and I can't cut and paste it to you here. So, if you provide me an e-mail, I will send it to you.
My great-grandmother (Eleonor)l was on of the two daughters Mr. Benjamin had in Rio Grande. My grandfather was his son Jorge and my mother (who sent the link to this post to me) is called Leonor.
Apparently we are not so distant relatives. So, I would be happy if you could tell me who you are in our family tree.
Best Wishes,
Ângela

Hey Ângela! It's amazing that we could find this link, I always thought it was a bit of a lost cause. Anyhow, here's my email: brunopcfarina@gmail.com

I'd love to see this archive on him as he's a bit of mysterious figure for our family. I am a descendant of his second marriage, if there was one, since I cannot find any files on it.

Thanks. I'm really amazed!

Farina, my great-great-grand mother was Elizabeth Macrae de Freitas. She was from Rio Grande. Elizabeth Macrae de Freitas, was either William Macrae's daughter or grand daughter. We have family members in Rio Grande, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro.
