Hi my name is Louise Kibby (MacRae)I am originally from Lochcarron, now living in New Zealand. I have the molly Akers book and on page 113 our family is listed. My grandfather is Alexander Macrae from Meallon Cottage Stromeferry. Is there anyone out there that knows anything more about Malcolm who died in NZ,John who also died in NZ.Also Lachlan and his family. My father is Ali Macrae. Any information would be great. Thanks

Hi Louise,

I was wondering if you would mind doing me a huge favor? I want to buy the book you mentioned but need to be sure the people I am looking for are in it.

I am researching the family of George McRae and
Ellen Sutherland. They emigrated to NZ in 1842 aboard the vessel, "Mary Ann". George and Ellen had 11 children and settled in Blenheim, Malborough. My grandfather Guy McRae Matthews was their great-grandson.

If you could look in the book and see if they are mentioned I would be so grateful. Also if anyone has ties to this family, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks so much,
Elaine

My grandfather was Lachlan and lived in Oamaru. I went to Stomeferry 3 years ago and stayed with my father's cousin.

Hi Barbara, Lets hope I get this right. Lachlan and My Grandfather were brothers. My grandad was Alexander MacRae and he had two sons (Alasdair and Calum). Ali (Alasdair is my dad). When Dad and Mum visited earlier this year we met up with David MacRae a school teacher from Palmerston North. It was great for the family to meet. Would love to hear from you.

Hello Louise,my name is Neil Connolly and we have owned Meallan at Stromeferry for the past 10 years. The original deeds for Meallan were granted in May 1927 to an Alexander MacRae of number 4 Station Cottages Stromeferry. My understanding is that Alexander built Meallan to live in after his retirement from the Railways. He had three grandchildren from one of his children (Isabella?).Mary, who died last year aged 86, Isabel, who lives in Glasgow, and Chris who died approx 15 years ago. There was also an Alec MacRae whom i think was Alexander's son who married Margaret Black and her son was Callum who had inherited Meallan before it was sold out of the family.
Hope that this is of some use but if you want i can try and find out a little more.

Kind Regards
Neil Connolly

Hi Louise,
I have come across your posting more by accident than anything else.
I am David MacRae,son of Alec and Jeannie from Muir-of-Ord. Until recently I worked with your Uncle Calum and have now retired after 31 years
in the Police.
I met your dad recently at Mary Martha's funeral and it was good to meet up with him.
We will be second cousins,I believe.

I am interested in your research for the NZ end of the family as I am aware that we have a lot of relations in NZ, many of whom I do not know.
Mhairi MacRae,who is the daughter of Chris and Helen and a Professor at Glasgow Uni, is a regular visitor to NZ for her work and you should contact her. She is also your second cousin and re-built "Lochview" in Strome, next door to Meallan.I go and stay there every couple of months.
She has researched the family tree, and has given me a copy which goes all the way back to the 1500s and beyond. It is really interesting and I could send you a copy if you like.
My own son,Douglas, was in Wellington 3 years ago for part of his Phd for about 4 months but
didn't contact any of the family because we did not have any real info as to where everyone was.

It would be good to hear from you and get some info re the NZ folks, as I would like to travel there before I become too old !!!
