I can't supply all the details but maybe these few clues will give you somethimg to work on. In the index of entries for the 1851 census of Kintail there are only 2 Duncan Macraes of age to be born about 1820. Both are Fisherman and labourer for occupation.
One Duncan age 29 with parents John Macrae, age 82, and mother Christian, age 74. John has a visiting brother Farquhar all born Kintail Parish. A note added to a transcript of 1851 census states the above Christian is daughter of Finlay and Catherine Macrae.

The other Duncan age 30, parents John Macrae age 72 and mother Marion age 72, siblings to Duncan, are Donald age 40, Isabella age 28, all born Lochalsh Parish. A note in transcript of 1851 census names parents of this John as Donald and Christy Macrae.

Both families reside in Ellen St. Bundaloch, Dornie as neighbours. I could send jpg of census page or you could find it on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Hope this is of some help, Tina.

Hello Diane,
I have noticed you querry for the above. I have researched this family and interested in having contact with you. I can help you with Parents other members of the family etc. My Gt Grandfather was Duncan's brother. My Grandfather came to Queensland in 1899 then to New Zealand around 1904.
I Have researched quite a bit of the family coming to Victoria. You mentioned he may have been married before. To my knowledge I don't think so. Duncan had a much younger brother Donald who is my Gt Grandfather.
Look forward to hearing from you
Shirley
