Does anyone have any information on Alexander McRae who was a shepherd at Corriefeol, top of Strathconon, around 1800? Also his wife Margaret Tuach.

I am looking for the McRae family that were at Corriefeol early 1800's. I have a Janet who married in Contin 1814, to John Matheson.
Any ideas ? Please email me at kylem@tesco.net.

My greatx3 grandfather was Alexander MacRae who was at Corriefeol around 1800. He had at least 5 children, Mary born 1814, Ann 1815, Kenneth 1818, George either 1823 or 1828 and Margaret 1826. Alexander's wife was Margaret MacKenzie, born abt 1792 so they would have married perhaps around 1810, same as your Janet. Could Alex and Janet be brother and sister? Corriefeol is just one house so if Janet was there they must be family.

My GGG Grandmother was Mary McRae from Corrievuic which is only 200/300 metres across the river from Correfeol . She was born circa 1806 and married Murdo Matheson ( shepherd from Glenorrin ) in 1830 . Her parents were Alexander McRae and Mary Macgrigor . She had at least 2 brothers , Duncan born 1813 and Kenneth born 1816 .

Have you read the report issued in 2010 by NOSAS ( North of Scotland Archaeological Society ) of their detailed survey of Upper Strathconon which includes lots of interesting archaeology at Corrievuic and Correfeol plus nearby sheilings , illicit whisky stills etc . There is also an interesting surname study for the various townships nearby which includes a Kenneth MacRae on 1717/1718 rentals . You can get it free from their website (www.nosas.co.uk ) - 'Report of Phase Two Scardroy and Upper Strathconon' .

Just thought you might be interested .
