My Great Grandparents were Duncan MCrae and Margaret Morrison Married in Rosemarkie Ross and Cromarty on the 27th May 1870.

I am having difficulty in tracing Duncan's birth which I believe to be about 1850.Can anyone help?
Duncan's Death cert shows his parents to be David MacRae and Sarah McPherson.

Any help would be much appreciated

I'm trying to track down some ancestors of mine. I haven't got too many details, but if anyone can shed a bit of light on this, then please let me know. Here's what I've got:

Roderick A (possibly Albert or Arthur) McRae (changed spelling to MacRae later)
Married to Nell (don't know if this is short for something) McRae (nee Seath)
Immigrated to Australia in 1924 with 3 children Don (Donald?) Ian and Barb (Barbara?).
Later in Australia had another son Roderick John born in 1928 (my Grandfather).

I am having difficulty getting either shipping/passenger details (they came in to NSW most likely Sydney) or Birth/Marriage details for Roderick &/or Nell in Scotland.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm currently researching when the name changed from MacRae to my family name; Ray, and the apparent connection to Scotland.
So far, I understand (learned at my grandfather's knee...)the Ray's of northwestern North Carolina and eastern Tennessee are derived from the MacRae.
The history I have at this time says William and Catherine came to North Carolina by way of Argyll Scotland. I imagine that was only a departure point. We are not 100% sure that his name was William, especially since there appears to also be a Christopher (and Catherine) in the history.
This issue has pretty much held up any further research.
I would appreciate any light on the subject.

My grandfather was Kenneth McRae, son of John, son of Donald, son of Kenneth. The one thing that John, Donald and my grandfather all had in common is that they either built (Donald) lived in (John) or owned (Kenneth) Rose Cottage in Strathpeffer close to the Spa Pavillion. That property was in the family from the early part of the 19th Century until the early part of the 20th Century. I still hold the original lease under which the property was held. The lease was surrendered back to the local estate when my grandfather's family were unable to pay for the roof repairs. The property,s name has since been changed. When last I looked it possessed the rather inelegant name of Glen Marvin.

My name is Gary Murchison & I have traced my direct line back to a Kenneth Murchison born 1799/1800 in Lochcarron and died in 1868 in Edinburgh. His father was also Kenneth Murchison married to Christina (Christy) MacRae. There is mention of a Kenneth Murchison marrying Christina around this time in both the dornie manuscript & "notes on the Murchisons"... and I'm therefore hoping to 'plug' my line into these docs. However to verify this I need to know if Christina's father was Duncan MacRae. I cannot find a death or birth record for Christina and I am hoping that someone else has researched this Christina and shed some light onto who her father was.

I am also after information on his wife, my great grandmother Elsie Martha Walsh. Elsie was born 1897 in a place called St Arnaud and died 1968 in Australia. They married in approximately 1919.

If there is anyone out there that is within this line that can help me or who has come across any info in their own research i would be greatly indebted.

I would like to know where I might turn to in order to find any information on these ancestors. Some conclusions that have drawn is that the "boys" may have been advanced in age - Ludovick, for example built his home in Delhouise, Quebec in 1802. His descendants still live in the house.

I am looking for information about John D. McRea, Sr. (born around 1804, I think in Petersburg East Ward Township, Dinwiddie County, VA). He was married to Martha J. (place of birth, SC)known as 'Marthy'.
He moved to GA (? date unknown, was listed in the 1850 GA Census as being a brick mason, and lived in Division 15 of Cherokee County. He and Martha are buried in the city cemetary in Kennesaw GA.

I can trace my father's family back to John, but then I hit a stone wall. (My grandfather George Lester, changed the spelling of my father's last name to "McRae" due to a family squabble; my father and I are the last descendents to use the "McRae" spelling, as my father was the only male to marry and had only one child - namely me).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My father is now 84, and I would really like for him to know more about the lineage before much more time passes.

Also, I am a mason living in Japan whos lodge is part of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. If anyone would also happen to have any information on this relatives family and Scottish Masonry, that would also be very much appreciated as well.

So I am interested to know if marriage and birth records exist and if there are any relatives or researchers who could place Margaret there at that time, and of course and possible family information about her. Presumably she was a similar age to Daniel but they both died quite young.

I am also seeking to find descendants of JOHN MCRAE born in 1853 in KIRKHILL,INVERNESS. John married ANNIE DAWSON on February 15, 1878 in the St George District of Edinburgh. At the time of his marriage he was working as a railway points man elsewhere in Scotland.

I always liked genealogy and to search on the history of my family, and looking for for the Internet I obtained the blazon and a small text on the history of the family Rayol (or Raiol) and this text quotation that the Rayol family has escocesa origin come from the ancestry of Sir Duncan McRae, warrior of the elite of highlanders and the Knight Eilean Donan Mr. of Kintail, the text explains despite its descendants go for ocidente European for 1693 when they had passed to be called “Rayol or Raiol” for the present appeared.

In such a way it would like to know if it exists the possibility of these information to be correct. It will be that the possibility of the Rayol family exists to belong to the Clan MacRae?

The few documents I have acquired of my gg grandmother Margaret Macrae gives her parents as Donald Macrae (farm servant) and Ann(e) Macrae. Margaret always gave her place of birth as (KINTAIL) although she stated her parents last address as (DINGWALL).

He was born in Glasgow in 1899. His father, John McRae worked for the government auditing distilleries. He was married to Sarah Sharpe McRae. Sometime between 1901 and 1903 the family moved to Glenelg and lived in a single story cottage that at the moment I can't think of the name of. John was an alcoholic, and there is family history that John lost his job because of his alcoholism and also that Sarah convinced him to back out of the Glasgow. Both are buried in a church cemetary at Glenelg.

My Grandfather joined the navy--Boys Service--at the age of 14 and served on the HMS Hindustan during WWI.

At some unknown point he migrated from Toronto, Canada to Detroit, Michigan to work at Ford Motor Company which he retired from around 1964.

He had no brothers or sisters. While in Canada he married my grandmother, Anges Borland Graham. She also migrated from Scotland to Canada in 1920. She also left from Glasgow. They did not know each other until meeting in Canada.

I was born in Detroit, but now live in South Carolina just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. I've met a lot McRaes in the Carolinas and I've been told a lot of histories that I wonder if they include me. A lot of the history includes many McRaes that left the states around the time of the revolutionary war. I'd like to know if I'm related to anyone in the Carolina's beyond sharing the same name or if I'm related to many of the American Indians that have McRae Blood.

I thought I had no hope of finding John's parents until I saw on your site that a 1793 census showed only 2 or 3 families at Kintail were not Macraes. Is it possible to access that census? John would have been about 5 then.

As part of my research into my family history I am researching my paternal grandmother who was Matilda Marks Reid McRae. Her father was Kenneth McRae who lived and died in Motherwell Scotland. My Gran was born in Motherwell. The grey area is trying to trace Kenneth's parents.

I would be interested in trading notes and research I have already done with anyone who believes they may be related to my Gran.

Although the offical records the family was using the name Rae, unoffically they were still using MacRae well into the 1800s.

Much to my suprise after submitting our family DNA it turned out we were not from the McKenzie line but, the Macrae line. My last known ancestor was Daniel McKenzie born Nov. 28, 1823 near Grantown, Strathspey, Scotland. I have searched for his parents on every record imaginable and have never found him. So, we submitted a direct male line for DNA testing and we have matched almost number by number the DNA of the Macrae line under the Dalriada branch. Any help would be appreciated. I'm descended from Duncan McRae CH 174 line 8 through his daughter Flora. When she married John Macrae in 1788, the record says she is the niece of Alexander ("Alister Donn") which is true, and no parents are listed. Would this indicate that her parents are both dead at this time?

As Flora only had one sister Isabel, I thought her mother may have died following childbirth and her father died sometime later.

Is there anyone descended from Alexander who may have a family story about Flora and Isabel living with Alexander's family at Auchtertyre?

Also does anyone know who John is descended from?

Finally, Flora's son Donald lived at Glengarry before migrating to Australia, does anyone have Glengarry ancestors?
