DONALD departed Scotland between 1851 and 1861, and I believe met Bridget on the ship to Australia. Their sixth child, ALEXANDER, b. 23.05.1876, Ipswich, Qld, Australia, was my grandfather. I have lots of information regarding the family from the point of arrival in Australia.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who may "match" up. I can be contacted on sandymac4@hotmail.com. Many thanks.

I realise itÂ’s a long shot but thought I would ask a question of this forum, and apologize for the length of this enquiry. I am seeking any record of Margaret Macrae, who I understand married my relative Daniel Bazalgette in New York. Here is what I know:
Daniel was born in London on 28 Feb 1793 and christened at St GeorgeÂ’s (Anglican) Church, Hanover Square on 28 March 1793. According to the family Bible, on Mar 21, 1816: "Daniel Bazalgette took leave of his family to go to New York."
By 1824 they had returned to London and were living at 1, Nottingham Terrace, Regents Park, and were still there in 1828. So it is believed they married sometime between 1816 and 1824 in New York (City probably) and had a daughter, Frances Elizabeth. Daniel became a partner in the firm of Armstrongs and Bazalgettes, who were West India merchants in London.
On Jun 17, 1838 Daniel died of lung cancer at Eastwick House in Evesham, Gloucestershire.
Frances Elizabeth was what at the time would have been called a bluestocking, since her main claim to fame was translating from the German ‘Meditations on the Life and Doctrine of Jesus Christ’, by Nicolas Avancinus, published London, 1875.
After his death, Margaret married Edward Rudge on 13 May 1841 at Marylebone. Margaret died on 3 Sep 1846.
In 1856, Frances Elizabeth was living at Hesketh House, Hesketh Cross, Torquay and died there on Dec 21, 1874.

So I am interested to know if marriage and birth records exist and if there are any relatives or researchers who could place Margaret there at that time, and of course and possible family information about her. Presumably she was a similar age to Daniel but they both died quite young.

Many thanks,
Charles Bazalgette

Great site. I hope I can find the help others have been able to get here.

I'm looking for pre 1900 information about my grandfather and his family. This is what I do know.

My grandfater's name was Donald McCrimmon McRae. I'm not confident on the spelling of McCrimmon. It was his middle name though and not a hyphenated last name from his mother and father. The Spelling McRae was changed from MacRae by Canadian Imigration when he migrated in 1920.

He was born in Glasgow in 1899. His father, John McRae worked for the government auditing distilleries. He was married to Sarah Sharpe McRae. Sometime between 1901 and 1903 the family moved to Glenelg and lived in a single story cottage that at the moment I can't think of the name of. John was an alcoholic, and there is family history that John lost his job because of his alcoholism and also that Sarah convinced him to back out of the Glasgow. Both are buried in a church cemetary at Glenelg.

My Grandfather joined the navy--Boys Service--at the age of 14 and served on the HMS Hindustan during WWI.

At some unknown point he migrated from Toronto, Canada to Detroit, Michigan to work at Ford Motor Company which he retired from around 1964.

He had no brothers or sisters. While in Canada he married my grandmother, Anges Borland Graham. She also migrated from Scotland to Canada in 1920. She also left from Glasgow. They did not know each other until meeting in Canada.

I was born in Detroit, but now live in South Carolina just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. I've met a lot McRaes in the Carolinas and I've been told a lot of histories that I wonder if they include me. A lot of the history includes many McRaes that left the states around the time of the revolutionary war. I'd like to know if I'm related to anyone in the Carolina's beyond sharing the same name or if I'm related to many of the American Indians that have McRae Blood.

This is all know, I would grateful for anymore information should anyone have any to share.

Thank you.

Hi, My name is Callum Smith and I live in the Borders of Scotland. I have recently received into my possession, after the sad passing of my uncle Graham eleven years ago, the family tree he had spent years researching and I would love to continue it. Before I came to have this document, with almost 200 names on it going back to the 1600's and seem to orientate 'so far' to Kintail, I only knew of my grandparents and nothing further. I have read a few pages on here about tree lines that people are looking for and wonder are some of you distant relatives of mine?
I will list here the tree I have that has my grandparents and great grandparents and great great grandparents etc etc etc although I have much more information on relatives of them in many different angles.
It starts with me CALLUM McKENZIE SMITH born Dumfries in 1976 (Wife Sinay Erkarakasoglu born in Izmir 1985). My father CALLUM MACRAE SMITH born 1957 in Ammersham (Wife Josephine Renwick born 1957 in Dumfries). My grandfather EOIN SMITH born in Thame 1926 (Wife Sadie Graham or McKenzie born 1930 in Gretna). Then his mother PEGGY MACRAE born 1904 in Lochcarron (Husband Edward Smith born in Thame 1880). Her father was JOHN DHUTH MACRAE born 1872 in Avernish (Wife Raechel Gillies born 1868 in Sleat). His father ALEXANDER AVERNISH MACRAE born 1840 in Avernish (Wife Ann MacLennan born 1845 in Balmacara). His father DONALD SMOR MACRAE born 1810 in Plockton (Wife Mary MacDonald born 1810 in Kintail). His father DONALD ROY MACRAE born 1784 in Kintail (Wife Jean Ann Marie MacDonald born 1790 in Stoer). His father DONALD INVERINATE MACRAE born 1730 in Plockton (Wife Christina Strome MacRae born 1740 in Kintail). His father CHRISDEAN BUIE MACRAE born 1700 in Kintail (Wife Shona MacRae born 1692 in Kintail).
Now if anyone would like to get in touch with me please email me on callumsmith@email.com, I would love to hear from you.
