A public inquiry is now to be held into Scottish & Southern Energy's plans to install 400kV overhead electricity lines from Beauly to Denny.
In excess of 170,000 objections have been received in response to the proposal.
The inquiry will ensure that all aspects of the 137 mile line will be examined and concerns of opposition groups addressed. It is due to begin early in 2007 with a resulting decision expected by the end of 2007.
