Talented local Stonemason Alan Denny has now completed this years repairs and maintenance to the Monument.
After we had been let down by two previous builders, Alan stepped into the breach and, despite some difficult weather conditions, had the monument looking in excellent shape for the Commemoration Service held there on the 13th November. As a result of the very hard frosts of last winter, much of the crazy paving had come loose and had allowed weeds to take root in the gaps. The weeds and soil have been removed and the gaps regrouted. Several of the pavers on the walkway around the monument had also come loose and these have now been securely refitted. The two flat stones missing from the parapet behind the monument have also been replaced. These were removed by a motorist who had bogged his car but, fortunately, the local shepherd was watching and noted where he discarded these specially cut and shaped stones when they had served their purpose. Alan also strimmed the area behind the monument, leaving the whole area looking cherished and cared for.
If you plan to visit Sheriffmuir, take a plastic bag with you. The people who were there before you will have left their lunch wrappers so please help us to keep our monument tidy! Thank you!
