The Skye Bridge celebrated its 10th birthday today, days after the Scottish Executive released figures detailing a rise in the number of drivers using it. More than 3700 vehicles currently cross the bridge every day, around 1000 per day more than a year ago.
This rise has been significantly helped by the elimination of the toll last December when the Scottish Executive bought out the £27 million contract (see Skye Bridge Tolls Removed).
Protesters are still campaigning to overturn 130 convictions for non-payment of the tolls which they claim were not legally binding. Other campaigns attempt to increase tourism to the area in an attempt to boost the local economy.
