The Clan MacRae Society of North America's President, John MacRae-Hall, was very recently inducted as a Knight Commander in the Knights Templar, a considerable honor bestowed on him because of his charitable and public-service activities.
It is a matter of historical record that the Templars were the first internationally recognized Military Order of Knighthood. They became a legend in their own time. On the battlefield, the Templars were not permitted to retreat, unless the odds against them were at
least three to one. Even then, they could not retreat unless ordered to do so. In addition, surrender was useless because they could not use their funds for ransom. As a result, Templars taken in battle were generally summarily executed.
The Order continues, unbroken to this day. The
Grand Priory of the Scots exists in the USA but its Grand Prior resides in Scotland. It is not a Secret Society as some would believe, nor is it bound to any specific dogma, affirmation or denomination of the Christian faith. However, members are expected to follow the general precepts of the Christian faith, to conduct themselves in an honourable manner and to commit to some sort of public service or charitable pursuit, preferably by donating time and acquired skills to such use.
