It was with a great sense of shock and sadness that we heard of the death of Peter MacRae of Strathglass. He died at the early age of 52 from an aneurism while in England on his way to his home in Nairn. He died some 18 months ago but, unfortunately, the news has only just reached us.
When the Clan MacRae was reformed in 1990, Peter was elected to the position of Secretary and was a most enthusiatic member. Never afraid of controversy, he had strong and definite views on many subjects and was influential in shaping the Society. With George McRae, he drew up the Constitution and he wrote and edited the first Newsletters which were packed with interesting and informative items. Through him, we went to the Lonach Gathering and joined the Inverness Burns Club. He was a colourful and charismatic person and had a deep and abiding interest in Geneaology and all matters relating to the Clan MacRae. His absence from a number of events in 2003 had been noticed and we had hoped to see him at the Inverness Burns Supper in January this year. The news of his untimely and unexpected death has shocked us and we will miss him.
His funeral took place in Nairn and he was laid to rest beside his Mother. We pass on our deep and sincere sympathy to his son Sheridan and his Family.
