Years of clan wars and rivalry were left behind when representatives of some of New Zealands Scottish Clans gathered at the Community Hall, Ngongotaha, Rotorua, New Zealand in October 2003.
Eighteen members of the Clan MacRae Society from throughout the North Island joined our New Zealand representative Sue Tregoweth and her husband Kevin to celebrate their Scottish heritage.
For the past 10 years this annual event has been held in October in the central North Island and has been hosted by a different Clan each year.
This year the host was Clan McLean. Ian and Katrine McLean welcomed the sixteen Clan Representatives, each representative spoke briefly on the origins of their clan.
The Te Kuiti Pipe band lead the Clan March up the Main Street of Ngongotaha. Our Clan MacRae banner was proudly carried by George Brown decked out in his tartan trews. Following the official welcome a Pot Luck Luncheon was served. After this several dancing and singing acts and the Pipe Band entertained us.
In 2000 Clan MacRae hosted this event at Te Kuiti and had 21 Clans attend.
